Along with Kidling and Aguade, it is one of the three starter Pokémon of the Urobos region.

Trivia

Early design concept for Foliat

• Foliat was the first Pokémon concept created for Gen /vp/.
• Foliat's first sketch was a Grass-type kakapo.

Design origin

Foliat is based on a small bird not unlike an akalat, although it was originally supposed to be a kakapo, a flightless parrot, hence Foliat's lack of flight.

Name origin

Foliat's name is a combination of foliage and akalat.
