Weather conditions are mechanics of the Pokémon games that change the battle environment, activating abilities, modifying certain moves, and potentially damaging the Pokémon in battle or affecting their stats.
Types of weather[]
Clear skies[]
The default weather, with no effect on gameplay.
Sunlight[]
Advantages:
- Increases the power of Fire-type moves by 50%.
- Allows Solar Beam to be used instantly.
- Causes Growth to raise Attack and Special Attack by two stages each.
- Activates the following Abilities: Chlorophyll, Dry Skin, Flower Gift, Leaf Guard, Sunbathe, and Solar Power.
- Guarantees Harvest will restore a held Berry.
- Changes Weather Ball to a Fire-type move and doubles its power.
- Prevents Pokémon from becoming frozen.
- Causes Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun to recover 2/3 of max HP.
Disadvantages:
- Decreases the power of Water-type moves by 50%.
- Lowers accuracy of Thunder and Hurricane to 50%.
Rain[]
Advantages:
- Increases the power of Water-type moves by 50%.
- Allows Thunder and Hurricane to bypass accuracy check.
- Activates the following Abilities: Dry Skin, Hydration, Rain Dish, Swift Swim.
- Changes Weather Ball to a Water-type move and doubles its power.
Disadvantages:
- Decreases the power of Solar Beam and all Fire-type moves by 50%.
- Causes Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun to recover 1/4 of max HP.
Sandstorm[]
Advantages:
- Raises the Special Defense of all Rock-type Pokémon by 50%.
- Activates the following Abilities: Sand Force, Sand Rush, Sand Veil.
- Changes Weather Ball to a Rock-type move and doubles its power.
Disadvantages:
- Damages all Pokémon except those that meet any of the following conditions:
- Is Ground-type, Rock-type or Steel-type
- Has one of these Abilities: Sand Force, Sand Rush, Sand Veil, Magic Guard or Overcoat
- Is holding the Safety Goggles
- Causes Solar Beam to only deal half of its normal damage.
- Causes Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun to only recover 1/4 of max HP.
Hail[]
Advantages:
- Activates the following Abilities: Ice Body, Ice Slick, Permafrost, and Snow Cloak.
- Changes Weather Ball to a Ice-type move and doubles its power.
- Allows Blizzard to bypass accuracy check.
Disadvantages:
- Damages all Pokémon except those that meet any of the following conditions:
- Is Ice-type
- Has one of these Abilities: Ice Body, Ice Slick, Permafrost, Snow Cloak, Magic Guard, or Overcoat
- Causes Solar Beam to only deal only half of its normal damage.
- Causes Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun to only recover 1/4 of max HP.
Acid rain[]
Advantages:
- Doubles the base power of Venoshock (does not stack with 2x damage from poison).
- Changes Weather Ball to a Poison-type move and doubles its power.
Disadvantages:
- Damages all Pokémon except those that meet any of the following conditions:
- Is Poison-type or Steel-type
- Has the Ability Pollution
- Causes Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun to only recover 1/4 of max HP.

Note that the Abilities Air Lock and Cloud Nine do not remove weather conditions. They simply negate the effects of any weather condition that exists.
