Design origin[]

Water spirit

Early concept art for Yacuma.

Yacuma is based on a moon jellyfish. It may also draw inspiration from La Llorona, a folklore character who drowned her own children, and is meant to represent a more animal-like being than its two counterparts.

Name origin[]

Yacuma's name is a contraction of yacu-mama (a mythical sea monster that inhabits the Amazon River). In addition, all members of the Spirit trio have names that end with -ma, which comes from mama (common in the names of nature deities and goddesses).
